In Loving Memory Of Consta Dressler

A gentle breeze was blowing on the Rainbow Bridge. The leaves danced in the wind and the pattern of light drifting through them played across the grass. The sound of laughter rang through the air. Peepers were romping and Eatbugs was playing a wild game of hide and swipe. He was crouched behind a tall bush laying in wait for Beethoven when he felt a tug at his tail. He spun around and found one of Miss Priss' peepers busily "killing" it. He laughed and gently bopped it on the head. It jumped back, then laughed and took off running. Eatbugs turned and jumped from behind the bush to swipe at Beethoven. She bopped him back and they took of after each other.

In a particularly good sunny patch Picnic and Spunkie were lounging quietly together. They periodically twitched their tails for the amusement of the peepers. As Eatbugs and Beethoven went flying past, Spunkie winked at Picnic, wiggled her dainty bottom and took off in hot pursuit.

It was a day like any other on the Bridge. The kiddens were running, kiddens were lounging and enjoying a snack. Tinky had found a patch of catnip and was rolling contentedly in it. Rocky and Freyja were playing chaseys and Tiny Bubbles and Peanut were rounding up hockey players. A sense of peace seemed to envelop them all.

Eatbugs made a mad dash around a tree and was headed for the tall grass when he stopped so quickly that Beethoven nearly ran over him. "What's the matter, Eatbugs?".

He stood quietly for a moment. His fur twitched and his whiskers tingled. He listened hard to the music on the wind and sighing, bowed his head and whispered, "Another of us comes".

Beethoven and Spunkie bowed their heads as well. At length Eatbugs straightened up and quietly turned to make his way to the gate. From all over the Bridge the kiddens came, each making their journey in silence. Isolde and Virginia quietly took their place next to Eatbugs. "What is the matter, Little One" asked Virginia.

"I don't know", he replied, "there is something about the one that is to come. I don't know what it is, but there is something important..."

Virginia looked deeply into Eatbugs' eyes and smiled. "You have a special role to play, Little One". Eatbugs was about to ask a question when the flash of blue light appeared. When it subsided, a tiny calico kitten sat trembling on the Bridge. Something in Eatbugs was moved deeply by her. He and Isolde moved forward to greet her. She backed off and puffed her fur. "Don't be frightened little one, I am Eatbugs. Welcome".

She looked up at him and slowly began to relax. "My name is Consta" she said.

"Consta!" he looked at Isolde and back at the kidden.

"I was named after a human" said the peeper.

Eatbugs smiled and nuzzled her, "You were named after MY human. Don't you worry, Isolde and I will take very good care of you".

Consta looked into Isolde's kind blue eyes and began to purr. Isolde wrapped her tail around the peeper and Eatbugs washed her face, his chest puffed out in pride. He sat on the other side of her, beaming as the kiddens came forward to greet her. They gave her nosey greetings and earlicks and most of all, welcome and love.
